The Phoenix Prize has been awarded annually since 2010 and is jointly presented with the Munich Migration Advisory Board. The winners receive a prize seal from the City of Munich, which they may use in their public relations work.
Munich residents with a migration background who run a business or work as freelancers are eligible to apply for the competition. Their company must be based in Munich and have been active in the market for at least three years. The following categories are considered: start-ups, small businesses, established companies, and companies with a distinctive corporate history.
Three criteria apply when evaluating companies:
- Corporate development
- Creation and safeguarding of jobs and training places
- Diversity in companies.
The award is decided by an independent jury of experts, Applications are still possible until September 16th.
Among the winners of the last edition of the Phoenix Prize were Semir Babajic and Giancarlo Fodera, two of the founders of the Munich startup TreesenseThe startup has developed a sensor technology for real-time tree health monitoring to make data-driven decisions about tree care. The solution aims to optimize urban tree irrigation while saving water and labor.
