Unvyl: Website made easy for small businesses & Co

Tom Sacher, Jonas Matting, and Matthias Mann – the three founders of Unvyl – know that a good and well-maintained online presence is now essential for virtually every business. However, their professional experience also teaches them that such an online presence poses significant challenges, especially for small businesses, startups, and self-employed individuals with limited budgets and lacking expert knowledge. In an interview, the three founders share how Unvyl intends to help with its solution.

Munich Startup: What does your startup do? What problem do you solve?

Unvyl: Founders, self-employed individuals, small businesses, and companies often face major challenges when it comes to websites and online marketing: How do I create a website? What content do I need? How do I make the website GDPR-compliant? How do I reach new customers and employees? How can I approach these issues cost-effectively? Often, they lack the expertise and time to develop a good digital presence themselves, and high-end websites from agencies are too expensive for many. We want to solve this problem.

Unvyl is an AI platform with website builder, online marketing, and recruiting solutions, specifically developed for these target groups. Our customers receive an all-in-one solution for their digital presence: website creation, hosting, employee search, marketing, and legal compliance (including legal texts and GDPR-compliant).

The foundation is the automated creation of customized websites for over 200 industries, including design, text, images, and legal documents, in just a few clicks. We focus heavily on adapting the websites to the needs of the respective industries right from the start, using AI. This gives our customers a great starting point within just a few minutes and allows them to begin adapting their websites to their needs. Our website editor is extremely easy to use, requires no prior knowledge, and supports them with AI-powered text creation, free image databases, and visual suggestions for website design.

But a website alone doesn't make small businesses successful. They need digital reach and visibility. Once the website is created and published, Unvyl uses AI to automate additional complex tasks such as SEO, Google Business Profile, content, social media posts, and the creation and placement of job advertisements. This gives small businesses access to professional marketing measures without the need for expert knowledge.

Affordable and efficient access to a modern online presence

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Unvyl: Our solution includes not only website creation but also integrated digital marketing tools and talent acquisition solutions. We address key aspects of digitalization such as online visibility, digital marketing, legal compliance, e-commerce capabilities, and digital recruiting. By automating complex processes such as SEO (search engine optimization), social media posts, and the automatic placement of job advertisements on relevant portals, we contribute to increased digital efficiency. We also promote the use of advanced technologies such as AI in everyday life.

Overall, Unvyl offers founders, the self-employed, small businesses and companies simple, affordable and efficient access to a modern online presence with the necessary reach to get started digitally.

Munich Startup: What is your founding story?

Unvyl: All three founders have backgrounds in e-commerce, online marketing, and software development and have worked together at several companies. We have worked for corporations, medium-sized companies, and startups, and are therefore very familiar with the potential and opportunities of websites with professional online marketing.

In addition to their work as freelancers, Matthias and Jonas also supported small, regional companies and businesses with website and marketing issues. We repeatedly encountered the same problems: poor design, completely outdated or hacked websites, websites not optimized for mobile devices, GDPR and technical issues, insufficient digital reach, difficulties finding and recruiting new employees, limited time and expertise, and low budgets. Existing website builders were often too complicated or lacked important features, such as legal compliance or marketing and recruiting tools. Agencies and experts are often too expensive for this target group.

That's why we wanted to create a solution that makes professional online presences possible and feasible for everyone. That's why we founded Unvyl (derived from the English word "to unveil" – to reveal, to make visible). The conception and development began part-time in mid-2021. The GmbH was then founded in March 2023, and the platform went live in August 2023.

Munich Startup: What have been your biggest challenges so far?

Unvyl: It was very important to us to understand the needs and problems of our target audience as well as possible from the very beginning and to tailor our product accordingly. Therefore, we spent a lot of time during development conducting interviews, user tests, and repeatedly challenging ourselves to determine which features were truly important. In the process, we often discarded entire feature sets and completely reoriented ourselves.

Our platform is also very demanding technologically, as we need to cover everything from domain registration and hosting, website creation and editing, to marketing integrations, AI functions, and recruiting to have a chance in this highly competitive market. We didn't want to use existing content management systems; instead, we developed a completely standalone solution. This means there are no dependencies on third-party systems at the core, enabling rapid further development. This presented us with a real challenge as a self-financed startup with a small team.

Ambitious 5-year plan

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?

Unvyl: The foundation has been laid! Our customers can achieve their goals more easily with Unvyl, and the feedback has been excellent. In a year, we plan to further develop our core products (website, marketing, and recruiting), make them even simpler and more efficient, and significantly expand our own reach.

In 5 years, Unvyl aims to offer much more to enable founders, self-employed individuals, small businesses and companies to reach their full potential by giving them access to technologies and resources that are normally only available to large companies.

Munich Startup: How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?

Unvyl: Munich is on the rise! We're experiencing a growing community of founders and startups, incubators, coworking spaces and startup centers, mentors, and events. What's especially great (in our experience) is that everyone is willing to help each other. We highly recommend everyone to pursue their ideas and be bold—you're not alone! This spirit extends beyond the city limits to us in Dachau.

Munich Startup: Quick exit or long breath?

Unvyl: 100 percent staying power. We have a lot of fun with our topics and are solving a real problem. Within this context, there are many other aspects we'd like to tackle together in the future.
