Tax-based research funding, also known as the research allowance, has been in place since January 1, 2020. All taxable companies in Germany can claim this funding for R&D services. With the passage of the Growth Opportunities Act in March 2024, the funding amounts were significantly increased, and in addition to personnel costs, material costs can now also be claimed. Total reimbursements of up to €2.5 million per year are possible; for SMEs, the amount is up to €3.5 million.
