On 6 September, a Flixbus with slightly different travelers on board – around 30 technology enthusiasts will be working on digital solutions for sustainable travel on their way to Mannheim. On the almost five-hour journey, the participants can experience this "Flixathon" then develop their solutions. Flix is organizing the event together with The Hackathon Company, a Mannheim-based company specializing in organizing hackathons. Its founder Oliver Brümmer explains what is special about the “Flixathon”:
"So far, we've only performed hacks with more than 24 hours of time and a strong internet connection. I'm excited to see what's possible in about five hours on the road. There's definitely plenty of fun to be had."
Specifically, the goal is to develop sustainable transport solutions to further minimize CO2 emissions in the mobility sector. This includes optimizing routes, schedules, and resources to minimize environmental impacts, as well as leveraging data analytics. The creation of user-friendly developments to promote environmentally friendly travel decisions is also on the agenda.
The bus will be heading to Mannheim, where the Hack Festival One of Europe's largest hackathons will take place. Several hundred tech talents will come together to work on solutions for decarbonizing the planet, which is also the motto of the event. Flix will act as mobility partner and, in addition to providing the bus for the warm-up, will also provide discount codes for all participants.
Participation in the Flixathon is free for everyone who registers for the hack festival. The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at Munich Central Bus Station, and arrival is between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. In addition to the opportunity to work on real-life challenges with like-minded people, participants will also receive a participation certificate.
