Ecog and Deepdrive win the German Innovation Award 2024

The two Munich-based startups Ecog and Deepdrive have won the German Innovation Award 2024 in the categories of SMEs and Startups. Semiconductor specialist Aixtron emerged victorious in the third award category, Large Companies.

Two of the three innovation awards go to Munich this year: The Munich-based company Ecog takes home the win in the SME category, and Deepdrive wins in the Startups category.

From startup to medium-sized company

Since 2017, Ecog a software technology solution for charging station manufacturers. This enables the cost-effective development of fast-charging stations – so-called DC charging stations – for electric vehicles. The charging technology and operating system solution can be deployed modularly as a hardware-software or software-only solution. The software can be updated remotely, and electric vehicles can also feed power back into the grid. More than 30 different charging station types already rely on the Munich-based company's operating system.

Via LinkedIn you can Ecog knowledge:

"A big shout out to our amazing team for their hard work and creativity! This win is a testament to our commitment to advancing charging infrastructure worldwide! Many thanks to Markus Haas (CEO of Telefónica Deutschland, editor’s note.), and congratulations also to the other companies in our category, PSI Software and Smapone, as well as to the winners in the other categories, Deepdrive and Aixtron."

Innovation award honors electromobility startups

Deep Drive has developed and patented a so-called dual-rotor radial flux motor, which can be installed as a central drive or as a wheel hub drive in series vehicles. With this motor, a vehicle is expected to be able to travel 20 percent further and require 20 percent smaller batteries for the same range. Furthermore, the motor is expected to require fewer rare earths in production while maintaining the same power output. The startup has already won various awards with its motor – including the title of "Best Munich Startup" 2023. Now it's up for the German Innovation Award 2024.

The German Innovation Award is presented jointly by Accenture, EnBW, O2 Telefónica, and WirtschaftsWoche magazine. Companies whose innovations are already successful in the market can apply in the categories of startups, medium-sized enterprises, and large corporations. In addition to product innovations, innovative business models, processes, and services, as well as organizational and marketing innovations, are also recognized. Companies headquartered in Germany are eligible to participate. Furthermore, the innovations must already be successful in the market and have been developed primarily in Germany.
