Munich Business Plan Competition: Winning teams of Phase 1

The ten winning startups from the first phase of Baystartup's Munich business plan competition have been announced. From over 130 teams, ten startups distinguished themselves for their outstanding business concepts. These include: Aicendence, Audavis, Bonescreen, CertHub, Datagon AI, Epicure, ImuVeo, Lactoverde, Prisma3D, and Vortex Aerotec. Their business and product ideas, as well as market and competitive analyses, were particularly evaluated.

This year's first phase of the Munich Business Plan Competition focuses primarily on innovations in the life sciences sector and AI-supported software solutions for medical diagnostics or industrial processes. However, business models that focus on environmentally friendly logistics, data analysis in auditing, and 3D animated mobile videos have also made it to the top of the list of winners. The Munich Business Plan Competition offers startups a platform to present their business ideas, receive valuable feedback from experts, and establish important contacts with investors and industry insiders.

“Comprehensive feedback from the Baystartup jury is worth its weight in gold”

Max Akhmedschin, Head of the Munich Business Plan Competition, explains:

"The quality and diversity of the submissions from the life sciences sector is particularly remarkable. Here, we see strong teams, especially from the university environment. The topic of AI is also strongly represented, demonstrating that the participating startups are at the cutting edge."

Johannes Strodel, project co-founder Aicendence, adds:

"We are currently busy submitting applications and preparing pitches every day. The processes here take a long time, and we rarely receive feedback on our business model. The comprehensive feedback from Baystartup-Jury is worth its weight in gold, especially for scientists for whom the startup world is still somewhat opaque."

These are the winning teams:

Area: Life Sciences

  • Epicure is focused on developing a promising drug called carbacitabine. The goal is to develop more effective therapies for diseases such as AML and MDS while reducing toxicity.
  • ImuVeo (ImnoTech GmbH) is developing an innovative tool for monitoring cancer immunotherapies. Visualizing T cells using radioactive tracers and PET scanners makes the course of therapy more transparent.
  • Lactoverde is working on biomimetic bioreactors that enable the efficient production of biological fluids and pharmaceutical active ingredients without the use of animal products.

Area: AI for medicine

  • Aicendence has developed AI-based software that automatically analyzes lung-related body fluids. This technology promises not only more precise diagnosis but also the discovery of new markers for disease.
  • Bone screen has developed SpineQ, an AI solution that facilitates preventive bone screening. Through automatic analysis of CT scans, it enables early detection of osteoporosis.
  • CertHub automates and digitizes regulatory work for medical device manufacturers. The AI-powered software accelerates the market launch of medical devices.

Area: AI for industry

  • Datagon AI offers an AI-supported platform for customized quality management in production processes. The solution optimizes quality predictions over time.

Area: Information Technology

  • Audavis is revolutionizing auditing through automated processes and advanced data analytics. This platform supports auditors in decision-making and detects anomalies in ERP data.
  • Prisma3D With its app, it's easy to create 3D animated videos directly on your phone. The app offers an intuitive way to animate characters and models.

Area: Logistics

  • Vortex Aerotec is developing a fuel cell-powered eVTOL drone for logistics. This clean-tech solution enables express deliveries over long distances with minimal environmental impact.

Phase 2: Applications open until March 20

Participants from Phase 1 and all newcomers to the competition now face further steps in developing their business ideas with regard to marketing and sales concepts. Founders from Southern Bavaria have until March 20, 2024, to participate in the second phase of the competition – even if they were not represented in Phase 1. Baystartup experts will support the teams in preparing for the competition in business planning tutorials.
