Enhancing urban living spaces and transforming gray into green: Many Munich residents are probably familiar with the term "Schanigarten" by now: these temporary outdoor areas of restaurants, usually built in parking lots, are extremely popular in the summer. The parklet is a kind of public counterpart. Here, too, parking spaces are being repurposed with the help of structures, usually into seating areas with additional amenities such as urban gardening opportunities or swap lockers. Bicycle parking spaces are also often integrated. The Munich-based startup Wow Urbane Utopien is behind several of these parklets in the state capital and elsewhere. We spoke to the founders.
