Under the motto "Startups Make Society!", the non-profit organization Forum Gemeinwohl honored startups whose solutions make a positive contribution to society with the Public Value Award. Seven finalists from fintech, greentech, smart city, and medtech presented their public-benefit-oriented business models in Leipzig. Energyminer impressed both the jury and the audience, taking third place.
The Public Value Award recognizes startups whose offerings address social issues and thus create benefits for society. The award is intended to encourage young companies to actively shape social values and further develop their individual public good profile.
This year, approximately 120 applications were received. All startups that qualified for the finals received intensive coaching prior to the awards ceremony. All award winners will now receive membership in the Forum Gemeinwohl (Forum for the Common Good), giving them access to a network of scientists, entrepreneurs, and consultants—including additional mentoring and consulting services.
Energyminer generates renewable electricity from micro-hydropower plants, which are designed not to interfere with the river biotope. Like a school of fish, the innovative turbine systems generate baseload electricity. Several schools of efficient energy fish are combined into operating companies, in which everyone can participate and benefit.
Energyminer: Support for the team
At the same time as the award, the Munich startup announced a new appointment. Ludwig Kons, who brings over 30 years of experience in the energy industry as part of the RWE Group, is joining the Energyminer team. The decision to support the startup is based on his personal interest in sustainable energy generation and water management. Kons will primarily support Energyminer in acquiring sites for Energyfish swarms.
Richard Eckl, one of the founders of Energyminer, comments on the team's expansion as follows:
“Ludwig Kons has an impressive career in the energy industry. Over the course of
Over the years he has made a significant contribution to the further development of renewable energy projects.
That’s why we’re proud to be able to work with him.”
