MaxL: New life science accelerator opens in Martinsried

The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is providing €8.5 million in funding for the establishment of the Munich Accelerator Life Sciences & Medicine, or MAxL for short, in Martinsried. The biotech network organization BioM will be responsible for its management.

The MAxL accelerator is designed to support pre-seed projects and early-stage startups in the biotech and healthtech sectors. The program is scheduled to launch next year. BioM has been supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and founders in biotechnology for 25 years and already operates a virtual incubator for the medicine of the future with the inQlab program.

“With MAxL we create the perfect conditions for successful spin-offs”

"Biotechnology is a crucial building block for the medicine of the future and a sustainable economy based on the bioeconomy. Startups play a key role as drivers of innovation. Thanks in part to consistent support from the state government, Bavaria has developed into an outstanding ecosystem for startups in this key sector,"

says Bavaria's State Secretary for Economic Affairs Roland Weigert:

"In the first few months, projects and startups face particular challenges. There is a great need for flexible laboratory infrastructure tailored to the early stages, combined with customized and professional support and networking services. The planned early-stage incubator in Martinsried offers both. With MAxL, we are creating the perfect framework for successful spin-offs."

MAxL is designed to support startup teams with a structured incubation and coaching program, fully equipped lab workstations, coworking space, meeting and event areas, and numerous training and networking opportunities. The goal is to position MAxL as a flagship project in the Bavarian life science and health tech ecosystem and attract investors and industrial companies alike.
