Sanacorp acquires a stake in Aponia

The cooperative pharmaceutical wholesaler Sanacorp is investing in the courier service provider Aponia. The Munich-based group and the Munich-based startup have been working together since 2020. Sanacorp has now acquired shares in the startup.

Through this investment, Aponia and Sanacorp are expanding their existing partnership. The collaboration between the two companies is also expected to grow at the operational level: A newly created interface will enable pharmacies using Sanacorp's online shop solution Mea to directly connect to Aponia's delivery service. The startup has been testing the delivery service concept with 30 Sanacorp customers in Munich for a year now. This year, the partners expanded the model to other cities.

“For us, the stationary pharmacy is always the focus”

Frank Hennings, Board Member for Trade of Sanacorp, says:

"For us, the stationary pharmacy is always our focus. Individuality, quality, and drug safety are the guiding principles of Aponia's concept – this fully aligns with our values. We have been successfully operating together in the market for two years now and have received consistently positive feedback from our customers."

David Heid, Managing Director and co-founder of Aponia, emphasizes:

"The cooperation with Sanacorp has been very valuable for us from the very beginning: Access to the market is easier with an established partner at our side. Together with Sanacorp, we are solving the logistical challenges in a digitalized world for local pharmacies. Deepening this already successful partnership is a logical step for us."

As in other areas of life, consumers increasingly want to order online and receive fast delivery from pharmacies. E-prescriptions will likely accelerate this trend. For brick-and-mortar pharmacies, this means that a service-oriented delivery service is becoming increasingly important to protect themselves against the Online mail order Aponia differs from other delivery concepts in that the Munich-based startup operates on behalf of the individual pharmacy.
