The company’s goal is to Quantum computing to make it applicable to industry. To this end, Kipu works at the intersection of customer use cases, quantum hardware architectures, and customized application- and hardware-specific algorithms, which are developed jointly with customers and implemented in enterprise solutions.
Daniel Volz founded the startup 2021 together with Enrique Solano and Tobias Grab. The CEO comments:
“We are pleased and grateful to be supported by a strong consortium with an excellent track record in quantum technology, product design, and scaling to commercialize an exciting technology that builds on more than two decades of scientific breakthroughs.”
Before founding the company, Volz helped build the first quantum teams at management consultancy McKinsey and the chemical company BASF. There, he learned about the needs of end users of quantum computing solutions. He is convinced that the current combination of current hardware with fewer than 500 qubits and primarily hardware-agnostic algorithms has not provided any significant advantage over other solutions. With Kipu, he and his co-founders hope to fundamentally change this.
Enrique Solano, co-founder and Chief Visionary Officer at Kipu, is also an honorary professor at the Basque Science Foundation Ikerbasque. He has been publishing on quantum computing since 2011 and emphasizes:
"We are proud to translate and commercialize the ideas we have developed over two decades of quantum research into products, bringing solutions to the quantum computing market with disruptive creativity. We look forward to collaborating with a talented, international team to develop products that will soon achieve quantum advantage. Our vision is to leverage application-specific quantum computing, built on the hardware of today and tomorrow, to solve real problems now, not in the next decade."
“Kipu Quantum is a great example of engineers bringing research to market.”
Andreas Fischer, Founding Partner at Momentum, explains:
"Kipu Quantum is a great example of engineers bringing research to market to enable solutions to some of the most pressing problems of our time. Kipu Quantum's technology will unlock new potential in climate technology, advanced chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and many other areas. The team has succeeded in assembling some of the brightest minds in quantum computing, and we are delighted to pave the way for them with our industry network."
Eric Hall, Managing Partner at Entrada Ventures, says:
"Entrada Ventures is excited about the significant economic impact quantum computing will have across all industries and believes Kipu's innovative approach paves the way for practical commercial applications soon. We are proud to partner with a team that has the technical and business expertise to capitalize on this promising technology."
Olivier Tonneau, Partner at Quantonation, adds:
"As an investor specializing in quantum technologies, we fully align with Kipu's vision for the quantum technology market. We believe the team has the potential to lead the quantum revolution with groundbreaking software and algorithms that help industrial customers leverage the benefits of quantum technologies. Kipu will work closely with leading hardware quantum computer manufacturers in Europe and the US, bringing their value-added software philosophy to bear once the hardware platforms are mature."
