The 'Energy Startup Bavaria' competition is seeking innovative companies that want to contribute to Bavaria's sustainable energy future. The focus is on new business models and technologies that can advance Bavaria's energy future and contribute to its climate neutrality. Furthermore, all concepts that can contribute to a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy supply are of interest.
Shifting up a gear on climate neutrality
Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger says at the start of the competition:
"Current developments in Europe show how important it is to quickly move away from fossil fuels. On the path to a climate-neutral Bavaria, we must therefore shift into high gear! To achieve this, we also need new business models and technologies from startups. I am therefore pleased that this year we can once again help young companies turn their visions of a sustainable energy future into reality."
The competition, a joint initiative of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Bayern Innovativ, Baystartup, Bayernwerk, the Association of the Bavarian Energy and Water Industry (VBEW), and Verbund AG, is aimed at startups from the DACH region and is held every two years. For participating companies, the competition also offers the opportunity to establish numerous contacts with potential partner companies. The winning teams will receive prize money totaling €18,000, and the three best startups will also be officially recognized as 'Energy Startup Bavaria'.

They will present their ideas in a virtual jury meeting one week later, on September 28. The winning teams will be chosen at the Startup Demo Night on October 10, 2022, at the Munich Tonhalle.
