Bavarian office opens in London

Bavaria has opened a liaison office in the United Kingdom. The office is located in a co-working space in the heart of the British capital.

The head of the Bavarian Liaison Office in London is lawyer Anna Schennach. The office is intended to promote economic exchange between Bavaria and Great Britain after Brexit. It will serve as the first point of contact for Bavarian companies wishing to invest in England and for British companies planning to invest in Bavaria. Trade volume between Bavaria and the United Kingdom exceeds eleven billion euros. The Free State of Bavaria also intends to deepen exchanges with Great Britain in other areas, such as science and innovation, education, youth exchange, and culture. Minister-President Markus Söder says:

"The United Kingdom is and remains an important partner for Bavaria. We want to maintain close contact, especially after Brexit. With a comprehensive Bavarian-British agenda, we will continue to breathe life into our good relations in many areas."

Opening of the London office had to be postponed due to Corona

The British Consul General in Bavaria Simon Kendall says:

"We are delighted that Bavaria is opening a new representative office in London, something that hasn't existed in the United Kingdom since the 19th century. The rapid development of new technologies and major global challenges require even closer cooperation between long-standing partners."

In April 2019, the Bavarian Council of Ministers decided on a stronger commitment of the state government on the island in order to intensify bilateral cooperation. The opening of the office had to be postponed due to the corona-pandemic was initially postponed.
