Ottobahn receives building permit for test track

Ottobahn aims to revolutionize transportation with a rail-based cable car. The Taufkirchen-based startup has now celebrated another milestone: The Munich District Office has granted construction permission for the first test track.

Ottobahn is a rail-guided gondola system, which will operate five to ten meters above road traffic. Users can call the cabins via an app and board and disembark at any time along the route. An algorithm calculates the fastest connection for all gondolas along the route in real time. Furthermore, the transport system is intended to be CO2-neutral.

Only in November, Ottobahn announced the completion of a seven-figure financing round with Ökovation Ventures as lead investor. With the granting of the building permit, the startup is now celebrating the next milestone.

Bavaria's Minister of Transport Kerstin Schreyer, who informed about the granting of the building permit, says:

"Especially in the greater Munich area, we need such creative ideas to ease traffic congestion. I'm pleased that the Ottobahn is gradually becoming a reality."

Ottobahn plans to start construction in mid-March

"The granting of the building permit is another important milestone for the realization of the Ottobahn. Now things are becoming concrete, and we are very pleased with the decision of the district office and the support of the Bavarian Ministry of Transport,"

explains Ottobahn's Managing Director Marc SchindlerThe groundbreaking ceremony for the test track is planned for mid-March, and Schindler explains what will happen next:

"It will be around 900 meters long, and the terrain has already been surveyed. Initially, one vehicle will begin operating on the oval in the second half of the year. We'll then expand this to a total of five vehicles, which will cover 100,000 kilometers of track."

The tests are an essential prerequisite for an operating license, which is already being monitored by TÜV Süd. Later, according to the wishes of the Taufkirchen municipal council, the test track will become part of the first commercial connection. This will become a reality between the Ludwig Bölkow Campus in Taufkirchen and Karl Preis Square in Ramersdorf.
