Billion-dollar market in sight: Fresh capital for NavVis

The Munich-based startup NavVis continues to soar. In October, the company presented its new digitization technology with the Deutsches Museum, and now, thanks to a successfully completed Series A financing round, it is driving further development and market penetration.

The Munich-based high-tech company specializes in the development of products and applications for centimeter-precise mapping and navigation of interior spaces. For example, a mapping trolley, a mobile scanner equipped with lasers and cameras, makes it possible for the first time—and for anyone—to capture entire buildings in three dimensions within a very short time. NavVis is closing its Series A financing round with BayBG Bayerische Beteiligungsgesellschaft and MIG Fonds.

NavVis Managing Director Dr. Felix Reinshagen now wants to "rapidly expand our technological lead. Therefore, we need the capital for the further development and market penetration of our company." The company was founded in May 2013 and currently focuses primarily on business-to-business applications. "With our technology, we are targeting a global market worth billions," Reinshagen continues, emphasizing that indoor spaces such as factories, offices, museums, shopping centers, or airports "have hardly been digitally mapped so far." Therefore, demand for NavVis's new digitization technology for indoor spaces is skyrocketing day by day. To meet the numerous requests, the mapping trolley is now initially going into small series production.

In February 2013, NavVis won the TUM IdeaAward, before being honored as the best startup of the year in the summer of 2014 with first place at the "Best of Munich" competition. The foundation for the business idea was laid at the TUM Chair of Media Technology. Key supporters include UnternehmerTUM, along with the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, BayStartUP (formerly evobis), and the CDTM. Regarding the support provided by UnternehmerTUM as part of the KICKSTART program, Managing Director Reinshagen emphasizes: "The mentoring and HR workshop were particularly helpful."
