Flixbus parent company takes over legendary US bus operator Greyhound

Greyhound represents the American long-distance bus industry like no other provider. Now, the Munich-based company Flixmobility, parent company of Flixbus and Flixtrain, has acquired the long-established company.

Greyhound buses have been celebrated in countless folk songs and represent affordable mobility for everyone. Flixmobility, the parent company of Flixbus, has now acquired the legendary bus company from its previous owner, the British Firstgroup. Media reports indicate the purchase price was €148 million ($172 million).

André Schwämmlein, co-founder and CEO of Flixmobility, says:

"People across North America rightfully desire affordable and sustainable travel alternatives to private cars. Together, Flixbus and Greyhound will address the increased demand for environmentally friendly mobility in the U.S. We will continue the success we've already achieved in 36 other countries with our innovative and customer-focused service."

Flixbus has been active in the USA since 2018The green buses currently serve 27 destinations in the Southwest, South, Northeast, and Pacific Northwest. Flixmobility is acquiring Greyhound, the former American market leader. In Europe, Flixbus has long been the largest provider of long-distance bus travel.
