Cubemos: “Every security gap is avoidable”

Occupational safety, IT security, and environmental protection – topics that require significant financial and human resources, especially from SMEs. Cubemos wants to change that. The Munich-based startup has developed software that digitizes audits and certifications. In an interview, the three founders, Patrick Bilic, Andreas Franz, and Christopher Scheubel, tell us exactly how it works.

Munich Startup: Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!

Cubemos: We are Patrick Bilic (32), Andreas Franz (45), and Christopher Scheubel (35). We digitize legally binding directives such as occupational health and safety, IT security, environmental protection, or money laundering and ensure their implementation. We are a CDTM Startup – that’s where we met and that also forms the basis of our shared values.

Munich Startup: What problem does your startup solve?

Cubemos: For many companies, it's unclear which legal obligations must be complied with and whether they are actually being complied with. Let's take occupational health and safety as an example. Non-compliance not only creates unnecessary risks for employees but also exposes the company to liability in the event of damage. With Cubemos, companies can not only comply with legal obligations with just a few clicks, but also sustainably improve their business. After all, every workplace accident and every safety vulnerability is preventable, and this is just one example of many.

Meet legal requirements with a digital solution

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Cubemos: That's true, but not yet digitalized. Currently, processes are completely manual or, at best, partially digitalized. This is a huge burden for companies, creates a risk of errors, and prevents companies from improving. For this reason, we offer a digital solution that is both more efficient and more effective. With a digital solution, we can empower every company, even small and medium-sized businesses, to meet all legal requirements and find out how to optimize their instructions.

Munich Startup: Has there ever been a point where you almost failed?

Cubemos: There are major challenges every day; it's a very big topic we're working on. Typical for SaaS products is convincing customers before the product can meet all their requirements; working closely with customers to incorporate requirements into product development; scaling sales at the right time; and much more. Each of these steps conceals stumbling blocks where we've made mistakes. However, we have one crucial advantage: We're an experienced and complementary team. This allowed us to quickly learn from our mistakes and set the course for Cubemos's next phase of growth.

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?

Cubemos: In one year, we aim to have reached the threshold of 200+ customers and embark on our international expansion into Europe. In five years, our goal is to become the solution for legal regulations and internal processes (SOPs – Standard Operating Procedures). We will cover the areas of occupational safety, compliance, and sustainability. We will conduct our own audits and issue certificates for the major topics. This will make us the provider with whom companies can operate sustainably and economically.

“We are currently building a global company”

Munich Startup: How do you rate Munich as a startup location?

Cubemos: We highly value Munich as a location! The environment of the CDTM and Munich's universities offers a wealth of opportunities for entrepreneurs. Munich offers a very high quality of life and attracts many highly qualified employees. That's exactly what we need for Cubemos.

Munich Startup: Quick exit or long breath?

Cubemos: We're currently building a global company. We have the opportunity to reshape the occupational safety market. That will certainly take some time.
