Munich Startup: Last year, you wanted to launch the "world's best water gun" with the SpyraOne. How did the crowdfunding community react to the water gun? How satisfied are you with your first product?
Sebastian Walter: The community was naturally thrilled when they finally got their hands on the SpyraOne and could start the water fight. It was a great feeling for us too – after all, they're fans from the very beginning, have believed in the SpyraOne, and supported us since the project was first introduced. We received very positive feedback and could see that the SpyraOne is achieving exactly what we hoped: People met up for water fights, took the water gun to the pool and into the garden, and had a great time together.
Of course, we also saw that there were some opportunities for optimization on the SpyraOne. We're very grateful for the community's feedback and have incorporated it into our further development. All of this has also been incorporated into the SpyraTwo, which we launched this year.
“We experienced a real rush on the SpyraOne, which was pushed from the USA”
Munich Startup: Last summer, there were some pandemic-related restrictions. How much has corona Did you spoil your long-awaited water fight? How well did SpyraOne sell?
Sebastian Walter: We actually got through the first year of the pandemic very well. The SpyraOne and SpyraTwo are outdoor gadgets, which obviously works to our advantage. At the end of 2020, we shipped over 11,000 SpyraOnes, and until May, when we launched the SpyraTwo, our warehouse was more or less empty. Especially in the winter, we experienced another real rush on the SpyraOne, which was pushed from the USA.
The SpyraTwo was launched during the lockdown, so to speak, but because we have fans beyond Germany in Europe, the US, and Canada, we're still experiencing incredible enthusiasm in the community. So, the water fight isn't going anywhere despite the pandemic.
Munich Startup: In May, you released your second model, the SpyraTwo. What distinguishes the new water pistol from your first?
Sebastian Walter: The SpyraOne was our baby, with which we embarked on the path to creating a completely new water gun and thus revolutionizing the market. As a startup, we naturally always set ourselves new challenges. This was: How can we further optimize the gameplay? With the SpyraTwo, we enable exactly that: A more powerful battery for more tank refills and shorter idle times between shots make the game even more dynamic. And, in our opinion, more exciting – for even more fun.
“There will be a lot more from the Spyra universe”
Munich Startup: Where are you headed now? What are you planning next?
Sebastian Walter: We're initially focusing on summer 2021 and the fun the SpyraTwo can offer water fight enthusiasts. Because we're convinced it's what makes summer truly epic. This is also about the gameplay as a whole, which is made possible with the SpyraTwo: Friends coming together, enjoying the sun, the summer feeling, and simply spending time together. Competing against each other in matches and thus creating real experiences.
But of course, we're not sitting still in development either. We're constantly setting ourselves new challenges to improve the gameplay. After all, we don't just want to sell a water gun; we want to create a strategic game that's much more than just a water gun. So there will be a lot more from the Spyra universe, we promise. Even though we can't reveal anything else just yet.
