Digitalization in Bavaria: New start-up centers are emerging

Selection jury named – Aigner: “Outstanding members”

Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs, Ilse Aigner, and Bavaria's State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Franz Josef Pschierer, have announced the jury members for the program to promote start-up centers and network activities in the field of digitalization, which will start in 2016.

Aigner: “It's about getting the best for the founders and the regions. We were able to recruit outstanding members for the independent jury."

The following members of the jury were appointed:

  • Bernd Buckenhofer (Executive Board Member of the Bavarian Association of Cities)
  • Dr. Hartwig von Bülow (Chamber of Crafts and Trades for Munich and Upper Bavaria as representative of the Bavarian Chamber of Crafts)
  • Joachim Feldmann (vbw – Association of Bavarian Business) Dr. Alex von Frankenberg (Managing Director of the High-Tech Gründerfonds)
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinz Gerhäuser (President of the Bavarian Research Foundation)
  • Prof. Dr. Herbert Henzler (Chairman of the WERK1.Bayern steering board)
  • Priv. Doz. Dr. Sara Matt-Leubner (Head of the Science – Business – Society Transfer Office at the University of Innsbruck)
  • Prof. Dr.-Ing. Erich R. Reinhardt (Chairman of Medical Valley eV)
  • Dr. Carsten Rudolph (Managing Director of BayStartUP GmbH)

Aigner: "We want to establish at least one startup center with a focus on digitalization in every Bavarian administrative district. The concept counts." Both existing and new centers are eligible to apply.

 

Pschierer: "It's no longer enough to simply provide space. What's new about this program is the required network, which includes universities, companies, and startups from across the region. In addition, the founders receive comprehensive coaching, early support with internationalization, and financing to help them develop successfully."

Each administrative district receives a business incubator such as the WERK1.Bavaria at Munich Ostbahnhof. Members of parliament, university and district presidents, and representatives of municipal associations are already meeting there to receive firsthand information about the program. WERK1.Bayern also aims to actively participate in the exchange between future startup centers in the field of digitalization. The networking among them is intended to create added value across Bavaria.

A prerequisite for a successful application is a broad network consisting of universities, established companies, investors and start-ups. The application deadline is May 13, 2016The expert jury will select the successful concepts by mid-June 2016.

Also new is a program for young companieswho are two years old or less and whose start is supported by Financing of up to 3,000 euro monthly for a maximum period of one year.
