The Munich startup and the commercial vehicle group want to integrate the Solar panels from Sono Motors on three different versions of the MAN electric van: a panel van, a station wagon with roof air conditioning, and a van with refrigerated interior. The energy generated by the solar panels is expected to increase the range of the vehicles and power auxiliary devices such as air conditioning.
MAN will “then evaluate whether the technology is profitable for our customers and at the same time protects the environment.”
"It's a great opportunity for Sono Motors to join forces with such a respected industry partner as MAN and collaborate for a more sustainable future. Our solar technology offers a lightweight and adaptable platform that's ideally suited for light commercial vehicles, such as MAN's battery-powered eTGE,"
says Jona Christians, Co-founder and CEO of Sono Motors.
“We look forward to all the possibilities that these two sustainable technologies can create together.”
Dennis Affeld, Senior Vice President at MAN Truck & Bus, says:
"We will pool our collective know-how and expertise to test various prototypes with vehicle-integrated photovoltaic technology. The goal is to determine how much energy can be generated through PV technology over the course of a year. With this knowledge, we can then evaluate whether the technology is profitable for our customers while also protecting the environment."
