BayBG invested 34.5 million euros in medium-sized companies and start-ups in the last financial year, according to Peter Pauli, Spokesperson for the BayBG Management:
“We have thus increased the crisis resilience of numerous companies and at the same time created the basis for their long-term positive development.”
The Investment companies generated a surplus of €2.3 million. The previous year's surplus was €5.2 million. BayBG's total investment portfolio amounts to €300.1 million. The 439 portfolio companies employ approximately 50,000 people and generated sales of €11 billion last year. Pauli says:
"BayBG supported the companies with capital, but also with consulting services and a network. We have proven ourselves as a partner for medium-sized businesses and startups."
BayBG expects increasing demand for investments
BayBG invested €16.2 million in growth measures for medium-sized companies. €8.9 million flowed into technology-oriented startups in the form of venture capital investments. A further €4.4 million went into arranging succession for medium-sized companies seeking non-family succession. New investments in companies undergoing turnaround and restructuring amounted to €3.3 million.
Since summer 2020, the company has also been implementing the so-called Pillar 2 of the Corona equity aid from the federal and state governments for the Free State as an intermediary. A total of over 50 million euros has been paid out or pledged to numerous startups and medium-sized companies.
“Given the difficult situation, we can be satisfied with last year’s results,”
says Peter Pauli.
The coronavirus crisis is causing many companies to experience a decline in equity. BayBG therefore expects a significant increase in demand for capital this year. More than €27 million has already been newly invested in the first months of the current 2020/21 fiscal year. Peter Pauli says:
“BayBG is well equipped to support these financing opportunities with venture capital.”
Overall, the investor expects new investments of 50 million euros and another positive annual surplus for the current financial year.
