The year 2020, unforgettable in many ways, is over today. Since many people weren't able to celebrate Christmas with their entire families as usual, welcoming the new year wasn't as usual either. We hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve despite the restrictions. But more importantly: We all hope for a better new year – with a pandemic that will hopefully soon be over.
Munich's startup scene has weathered the past year of crisis surprisingly well. The pandemic certainly hit many hard and even cost some up-and-coming companies their existence. But in retrospect, it wasn't quite as bad as it seemed in the spring expected by many.
The feared devastation that followed the bursting of the dot-com bubble at the turn of the millennium didn't materialize. Perhaps the coronavirus crisis was something of a baptism of fire for the startup scene: startups were able to demonstrate how quickly they can adapt to a completely unexpected situation. Nevertheless, we naturally hope for calmer waters in the new year.
