Funcoo: Drink crate holder for bicycles

How do you actually transport crates of drinks by bike? Students Stefan Roglmeier and Johann Feckl needed to transport crates of beer to their apartment for a shared apartment party and couldn't find a suitable solution – so they simply developed Funcoo, a crate carrier for bicycles. We spoke with the two founders.

Munich Startup: Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!

Funcoo: We, the founders of Funcoo, are Stefan Roglmeier (25) and Johann Feckl (25), both mechanical engineering students at the Munich University of Applied Sciences.

After meeting in our first semester, we became good friends through our studies, and from our third semester onward, we even became roommates in a shared apartment in Munich's Maxvorstadt district, which we also founded together. We now have four other roommates.

Munich Startup: What problem does your startup solve?

Funcoo: With Funcoo, standard beverage crates can be easily transported by bike.

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Funcoo: Unfortunately not. In fact, after having to transport several crates of beer to our apartment for a shared apartment party, we wanted to buy a suitable solution online. After a long search, we realized that there was no suitable solution for our problem, so we started developing Funcoo. We now know that there is a company in northern Germany that markets a similar idea to Funcoo. However, this design was anything but convincing.

“Planning to successfully establish Funcoo on the market”

Munich Startup: What have been your three biggest challenges so far?

Funcoo: Generate reach, create and establish company structures, legal matters such as incorporation, tax office matters, etc.

Munich Startup: Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?

Funcoo: For the future, we plan to successfully establish Funcoo on the market and provide people with a practical problem-solver for their bicycles. We plan to develop a suitable shopping basket (compatible with Funcoo) this winter. We hope to finance this through another crowdfunding campaign next year and then launch it on the market.

Munich Startup: How do you rate Munich as a startup location?

Funcoo: Very good! Munich offers a lot of support for Startups and is therefore a great location to build a large network and grow together with other startups, compared to other major cities in Germany.

Munich Startup: Isar or English Garden?

Funcoo: I prefer both, and as often as possible. Since our shared apartment is in Maxvorstadt, it usually ends up being the English Garden.
