Container in the creative lab: New space for the cultural and creative industries

Containers have been set up in the creative quarter at Leonrodplatz over the past few months. Soon, participants from Munich's cultural and creative industries will be working in the 26 spaces. Interested applicants can apply until September 15.

The colorful containers on Dachauerstrasse are visible from afar. Contrary to what their exterior might suggest, the stacked metal rooms offer all the amenities of a conventional workspace. The 26 offices, workshops, and studios comprise approximately 2,000 square meters and will be available for cultural and creative uses starting in November. Space for a café and a retail space is also available for lease. The interim use is expected to last for five to six years. Longer-term leases are generally sought. Rents range from €10 to €13 per square meter, plus additional costs.

MGH rents out the containers

The owner and landlord of the premises is Munich Commercial and Technology Center Company (MGH), which is also operated by Munich Startup. The use is carried out in close cooperation with the Referat für Arbeit und Wirtschaft, the Cultural Department and the Competence team for the cultural and creative industries of the City of Munich.

Along with the Creative Field, Creative Park, and Creative Platform, the Creative Lab is part of the Creative Quarter on Dachauer Straße on the former site of the Luitpold Barracks. The Creative Lab sub-quarter aims to create an urban mix of uses, including cultural and creative industries, culture, socio-cultural activities, and residential areas.

Interested parties from the cultural and creative industries can apply from now until Tuesday 15 September at kreativ@muenchen.de Detailed information on the expression of interest, the criteria as well as details on rental conditions and the available space can be found here.
