Wayra invests in Cobrainer

Wayra is investing in the Munich-based HR tech company Cobrainer. The startup had previously successfully introduced its AI-supported platform for employee and organizational development to the telecommunications group Telefónica. With this investment, Wayra intends to further expand its partnership with Cobrainer. The Munich-based startup, in turn, intends to use the investment to accelerate its international expansion. The amount of the investment was not disclosed.

Cobrainer develops an AI-supported platform for companies and their employees for internal staffing and skills management. The Munich-based startup was founded in 2013 from a research project at the Technical University of Munich. The AI-based technology creates a cross-departmental overview of existing and in-demand skills within a company. This is intended to enable managers within a company to better utilize existing potential and plan ahead to build required skills internally at an early stage through continuing education opportunities.

Wayra and Cobrainer have been working together since last year to integrate the HR solution into the Telefónica Group. Based on an initial pilot project, Cobrainer developed the Beyond platform in May of this year as part of the group-wide human resources strategy, which is intended to encourage employees to develop personally and professionally within the company. The group intends to rely even more on its own employees in the future. By the end of 2022, 70 percent of all vacant positions will be filled exclusively internally.

“Investing in a strong team”

Hanns-Bertin Aderhold, Managing Director of Cobrainer, says about the expansion of cooperation:

"We implemented the first pilot steps in record time. With the Wayra team at our side, we were able to precisely address the needs of the Telefónica Group and optimally integrate our solution into the existing environment – this would not have been possible otherwise. Thanks to the Innovation Hub's long-term commitment, we have a great partner on board to help the Telefónica Group in other countries as well. Especially in times of crisis like the one we are currently experiencing, the further development of our own employees is more important than ever."

Florian Bogenschütz, Managing Director at Wayra, continues:

"We are delighted to continue supporting the development of Cobrainer. It's an investment in a strong team and a great product that will become a key factor for companies in managing talent and efficiently managing internal resources. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, many companies are struggling with restructuring processes and budget constraints, making hiring new employees difficult. Cobrainer has been able to provide Telefónica with a tool to achieve its goal of filling vacancies predominantly internally in an extremely short time."
