Innomeda: “With Klinikradar we offer a holistic healthcare platform”

The Munich-based startup Innomeda is currently transforming its healthcare platform Klinikradar.de from a pure hospital search tool into a holistic healthcare portal. The founders have brought neurologist Dr. Tobias Bobinger, a clinical expert, on board as their new managing director. He answers our 7 questions in this interview.

Munich Startup: Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: We are the people behind Innomeda GmbH and operate the healthcare platform Klinikradar.de, which we are currently transforming from a pure hospital search tool into a holistic healthcare portal. Because I'm so enthusiastic about this vision, I've recently joined the core team of Alex (37, business, customer service), Alice (37, web development), and Marco (37, UX and online marketing). I'm Tobias, 38, a neurologist, and I'm bringing my wealth of experience from many years of clinical practice to solve a major problem in healthcare.

Munich Startup: What problem does your startup solve?

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: The healthcare landscape is characterized by many different providers and different treatment approaches. Patients often find it difficult to identify their treatment options and select the ones best for them. Overall, the quality of the various offerings in the healthcare landscape is very difficult to assess, depends on many different factors, and is very often assessed based on subjective parameters. This is where we step in and provide patients with an independent guide to support them during their recovery.

Objective quality data instead of subjective opinions

Munich Startup: But that's been around for a long time!

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: Yes, for each individual treatment option. There are doctor searches, hospital searches, rehabilitation platforms, or sites for apps or telemedicine services. We are in the process of Klinikradar.de We integrate all treatment options for specific diseases and thus offer a holistic healthcare platform. We also rely on objective quality data rather than subjective assessments by medical laypeople.

Munich Startup: What have been your three biggest challenges so far?

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: Yes, there were certainly a few along the way. The healthcare industry as a whole is still not very digitally savvy, so new models were often initially rejected. It usually took a long time to reach the right contacts. Fortunately, we've recently found some innovative supporters.

Like many other founders, we started by testing and validating various healthcare business models. The most important challenge was to define our current focus on holistic healthcare and implement it technically. We also try to involve visitors heavily in product development.

Of course, as for many startups, the Corona crisis was a major challenge for us, as all players in the healthcare industry were busy limiting the damage and innovations (understandably) had to take a back seat.

Innomeda has weathered the Corona crisis well

Munich Startup: How are things going?

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: Our site has been very well received by visitors. Since last year, we have been Germany's largest private hospital search portal. Visitor numbers and interactions continue to grow steadily. During the acute phase of the coronavirus pandemic, visitor numbers declined sharply, as expected, by as much as 65 percent, as hospital treatments that could be postponed were initially avoided and then simply not possible for a time. However, this has completely recovered in recent weeks. We were also able to extend partnerships with hospitals, as they were very satisfied during the initial contract period, and we were able to acquire new partners.

Munich Startup: How do you rate Munich as a startup location?

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: The startup scene in Munich has developed significantly in recent years and really has nothing to hide anymore. I believe that it has become a very good breeding ground for new ideas. And that was also the case with us: We established ourselves in Plant1 met.

Munich Startup: Get up early or stay up all night?

Tobias Bobinger, Innomeda: Since I am a young father, unfortunately it is often both!
