The cleantech initiative from Gate and Climatepartner is being launched to support startups in the Munich ecosystem in making their business models more sustainable. The collaboration supports founders with free webinars and consultations on questions related to cleantech and sustainable business development.
Cleantech initiative for more sustainable business models
Why does the incubator offer this, and what is the motivation behind the initiative? Gate Managing Director Christian Heckemann explained:
"We want to do our part to protect the climate and use our infrastructure in the startup ecosystem to do so. Because we are convinced that if we want to best support startups in their growth, we must also address the issue of sustainability."
Discussions with the Gate startups revealed that there is a great need for this. The focus is therefore on how companies can use their already limited resources to reduce their carbon footprint or achieve climate neutrality. To generate more enthusiasm for the topic, the initiative aims to demonstrate why climate protection is also worthwhile for (early-stage) startups. This makes Gate the first incubator in the greater Munich area to champion cleantech.
“The – preferably financial – benefits for your own company must be made tangible and the measures must be uncomplicated, cost-effective and effective,”
says Lisa Hyna, Communications and Community Manager at Gate. Also important is how climate protection can contribute to customer or staff acquisition.
Three online seminars in July 2020 in cooperation with Climate partner For example, they will discuss which data is included in the carbon footprint and how to minimize it. The second webinar will focus on supply chain analysis for sustainable product design and the lowest possible product carbon footprint. The third workshop will focus on marketing a sustainability strategy. Participants will learn how to profitably communicate the measures. The Gate startup Kewazo presents its best practice and explains how the marketing strategy for the scaffolding robot Liftbot benefits from the sustainable approach.
