#WirVsVirus: Federal government launches hackathon against COVID-19

Everyone against the virus: This weekend, the German government is organizing a hackathon against COVID-19 together with various social initiatives. Requirements for participation: internet access and time on March 20-22.

In addition to the German Federal Government, a diverse alliance of social initiatives is calling for participation in the hackathon #WirVsVirus: Tech4Germany, Code for Germany, Impact Hub Berlin, ProjectTogether, SEND eV, Initiative D21 and the Prototype Fund. A press release states:

“We have come together across sectors to create a digital space where solutions to the challenges posed by COVID-19 can be worked on.”

#WirVsVirus as a starting point for long-term social engagement

The aim is to pool the work of public sector and private sector employees, social sector actors, and citizens from all sectors of society. The #WirVsVirus hackathon provides a shared organizational and technical framework in which programmers, designers, creatives, problem solvers, and socially engaged citizens can contribute online for two days. The goal is to develop functional prototypes and solutions—digital and non-digital—for socially relevant issues related to the coronavirus crisis. The initiators see #WirVsVirus as a starting point for a long-term, collaborative effort to solve societal challenges.

On the project website, interested parties can submit problems and challenges, register for participation, or take on sponsorship or mentoring.
