Companies that set an example for energy and CO2 can apply for membership in the pioneering initiative as a climate protection company by 20 March 2020. The Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU), the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) and climate protection companies eV. a.
We are looking for German companies of all sizes and from all sectors that, based on their achievements and objectives, see themselves as role models for climate protection and energy efficiency. Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze says:
"Sustainable business and economic success are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary: Climate protection companies demonstrate that the two belong together. This makes them pioneers and can motivate other companies to follow suit."
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier added:
"We must think about ecology and economy even more closely together in the future. To do this, we need entrepreneurial role models who show others: It's possible! Become one of these role models and apply to be a lighthouse company for climate protection."
The lighthouse character of the initiative is confirmed DIHK-President Eric Schweitzer:
"Climate protection is a key challenge for the economy in the 2020s. Companies are called upon to explore new ways to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their own operations. Climate protection companies are showing how it can be done. They are setting examples of how climate protection can become a competitive advantage."

Sounds good? Then apply nowThe application process consists of an online quick check, which provides initial feedback. Interested parties then fill out the application form by March 20, 2020, in which they describe their climate protection and energy efficiency activities in the various business areas. The application will be reviewed by an expert and finally submitted to the advisory board for a decision, which will include experts from specialist institutions as well as the three initiators. BMU, BMWi and the DIHK Successful applicants will be honored with a certificate at a public event in Berlin.
