Kontextlab is Culture and Creative Pilot 2019

The founders of Kontextlab have received the 2019 Cultural and Creative Pilot award from the German Federal Government for their innovative software and their dossier format 'Der Kontext'. For 10 years, this award has honored projects in the cultural and creative industries that, in the jury's view, create added value that goes far beyond economic success.

Context is crucial for a deep understanding of knowledge. But communicating contextual knowledge is difficult. The Munich startup Context Lab has developed a solution for this: With its web-based publishing software, complex topics can be created and published in digital multilayer mind maps. In these maps, readers can playfully and visually gain an overview of a topic, discover different perspectives, and delve into the details. Co-founder Julia Köberlein explained:

“Our core questions are always how to deal with large thematic complexes
comprehensively and yet clearly and understandably.”

Enthusiasm, courage to take risks & unconventional thinking

With this innovative idea, Kontextlab was able to impress a 100-member jury, which decided on the award Cultural and Creative Pilots 2019 The jury selected 96 finalists from over 800 applications over the past few weeks. Each of these finalists presented their work in half-day interviews in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, and Stuttgart. Ultimately, 32 companies received the title of Culture and Creative Pilots 2019.

Monika Grütters, Minister of State for Culture and Media, says:

"With their enthusiasm, which continually generates original business ideas and impressive innovations, with their courage to take risks and unconventional thinking, the entrepreneurs honored as cultural and creative pilots inspire."

Exchange among cultural and creative pilots

And the two founders Julia Köberlein and Bernhard Scholz are also happy:

“We are very honored by this award and look forward to learning a lot in the coming year as well as to exchanging ideas within the entrepreneurial network of the cultural and creative pilots.”

Among other things, all 2019 Culture and Creative Pilots will receive a one-year mentoring program designed to support the further development of their own companies. In addition, the recipients can participate in various workshops and gain access to the Creative Pilots network.
