Sushi Bikes: Joko Winterscheidt founds e-bike startup

Joko Winterscheidt, together with the young entrepreneur Andreas Weinzierl from Munich, founded the E-bike startup Sushi Bikes and thus follows the current electromobility trend.

Andreas Weinzierl has already been working on the idea and implementation of a stylish and affordable e-bike in his first startup Drais Bike He has now found a prominent partner for his project in Joko Winterscheid. The collaboration also brings with it a new name for the company: Sushi Bikes.

Andreas Weinzierl sees a great need for affordable e-bikes:

"The e-bike market is booming, and yet I couldn't find myself in the offerings. I wanted an e-bike that looked good, had a handy battery, and cost under €1,000. Sushi is tailored to the needs of my generation and today's demands for urban mobility."

Sushi Bikes: affordable, powerful battery, attractive design

With their new product, the entrepreneurs aim to kill three birds with one stone: an affordable electric bike that, at €999, is significantly cheaper than competing products, combined with the pared-down aesthetics of a fixie bike (single-speed bike) and a lightweight and compact battery whose performance is geared towards urban conditions. The Sushi Bike has a range of 35 to 60 kilometers, weighs 15 kilograms, and can be recharged via USB in 3.5 hours.

How did the two business partners come up with the name for their startup? Joko Winterscheidt explained:

"Who doesn't immediately think of SUSHI when they think of e-bikes? One rolls, the other is a roll. That's why we came up with the perfect, albeit somewhat quirky, name from the Asian restaurant. Sushi Bikes – this is how we roll."
