Last Wednesday, the international documentary film festival DOK.fest kicked off in Munich for the 34th time. This time, two of the films also address the topic of entrepreneurship.
A total of 159 films from 51 countries will be screened this year, 109 of which will celebrate their premiere at the film festival. Munich's cultural representative emphasized the importance of documentaries. Hans-Georg Küppers in his welcoming speech:
“Especially today, in times of fake news, alternative facts, and seemingly simple solutions to complex problems, documentary films offer us something indispensable: exciting insights into the reality out there.”
The two documentaries “Entrepreneur” and “When Tomatoes Met Wagner” offer an insight into the reality of young companies:
Entrepreneur
In the film Entrepreneur Finnish director Vipiri Suutari juxtaposes two very different businesses: the couple Jani and Satu, who travel from village to village in their aging truck selling meat products. The other, the entrepreneurs Mariija and Reeta, whose vegan meat alternatives receive almost more investor support than they sometimes expect. You can watch the 75-minute documentary on May 12, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. at Rio 2 and on May 17, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at HFF – Kino 1.
When Tomatoes Met Wagner
In the 72-minute documentary When Tomatoes Met Wagner Director Marianna Economou follows two cousins from a dying Greek village. They face several challenges while attempting to establish a jarred tomato dish on the European market. The film will be shown on May 12, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. in the Carl Amery Hall at Gasteig and on May 15, 2019, at 9:00 p.m. at Rio 2.
