Mozaiq is out of business: The joint venture between Bosch, Cisco, and ABB was supposed to develop a standard for connected devices. Over 10 million euros had been invested. Now, the company's demise has been announced.
The joint project was originally launched to address a fundamental problem of smart home systems: devices from different manufacturers are not able to communicate with each other. Bosch, ABB and Cisco are creating a uniform standard with the startup Mozaiq.
Startup lacked the “stamina”
After four years on the market, the lights went out in March. startup scene had with managing director Axel Godoy When I followed up, he confirmed the end. The company had 20 employees at the time, spread across the Munich, Frankfurt, and Nice locations.
Godoy explained the decision to abandon the project to Gründerszene as follows:
“A startup probably doesn’t have the staying power needed to make a platform business financially viable in the consumer IoT context.”
Buyer for Mozaiq sought — hope for employees
ABB told the online magazine in response to a request:
"The platform's application possibilities are promising. However, the lack of momentum in the consumer IoT market does not yet provide a sufficient basis for continuing the Mozaiq platform in its current form as a startup."
The shareholders are now looking for alternative uses for the platform. According to Godoy, a transfer to another company is possible, for example. Potential buyers for the platform are currently being sought. If an investor is found, the current employees could also breathe a sigh of relief and be employed in the new company, Godoy said.
