The Innospace Masters competition recognizes concepts and ideas that solve current challenges in space or non-space industries through knowledge or technology transfer. Idea submissions are accepted until February 8, 2019.
The Innospace Masters competition, part of the Innospace initiative, promotes innovative ideas for the next generation of space travel. Under the motto "Space Moves!", the ideas competition was launched for the fourth time in Potsdam at the Conference on Space Technologies and Services for Agriculture. Until February 8, 2019, ideas and new concepts that address current user problems, as well as ideas for key topics related to space travel—such as sensor technology, new materials, simulation, and propulsion technologies—are being sought.
Winners receive technological and economic support
The competition's initiator, the Space Administration of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), and its partners Airbus, OHB, and the German ESA Business Incubation Centers, award prizes in four different categories. All require ideas and concepts to demonstrate varying levels of maturity and innovation. In addition to global networking opportunities, the winners receive technological and business support, as well as assistance in implementing their projects.
"The Innospace Masters has become an important driver of innovation in the field of knowledge and technology transfer. Ideas from other industries into space, as well as ideas from space into industry, bring numerous market-based advantages in various economic sectors,"
so Dr. Franziska Zeitler, Head of the Innovation & New Markets Department, German Aerospace Center (DLR) Space Administration in Bonn.
Since 2015, over 4 million euros have flowed to the winners
The competition is aimed at companies, start-ups, universities and non-university research institutions as well as consortia and individuals whose projects involve transferring know-how and technologies from other industries into the space sector (spin-in) and vice versa (spin-off).
“We are very proud that Innospace Masters is playing such an active role in promoting innovative ideas for the next generation of space,”
so Thorsten Rudolph, Managing Director of the competition organizer AZO.
"We've had a total of almost 200 submissions since 2015. Ten winners were selected and prizes worth 4.2 million euros were awarded."
After the submission phase ends on February 8, 2019, all complete applications will be evaluated anonymously by a jury of experts from the competition partners.
The winners of the individual competition categories and the main winner will be honored during an awards ceremony in mid-2019 as part of the Innospace Masters “Space Moves!” conference at the Humboldt Carré, Berlin.
