Eco routing is set to become a reality. To ensure that navigation devices in the future not only find the fastest route but also the one with the least air pollution, the two Munich-based startups Hawa Dawa and ryd have partnered with Siemens Mobility.
Siemens Mobility is testing how Eco Routing can be implemented in a so-called eco-sensitive traffic management system together with Thinxnet GmbH (ryd) and Hawa Dawa in a one-month field trial.
Field trial for Eco Routing
How does the test work? Based on current air quality data from Hawa Dawa, air quality forecasts are made. Based on these data, test drivers are given route recommendations. These recommendations offer the optimal combination of good air quality and short travel times.
The added value? By choosing the suggested route, the test group not only reduces their own health impact, but also actively contributes to improving air quality in the city. There's also a reward system: By choosing the sustainable route, users earn bonus points on the ryd platform.
"Eco routing at the individual level is probably one of the most exciting options available to us in the fight against air pollution in cities. It could perhaps help avoid one or two driving bans."
thinks Karim Tarraf, CEO of Hawa Dawa.
Michael Peter, CEO Siemens Mobility explains how the industrial partner can contribute:
"With our digital and AI capabilities, we analyze data, predict typical routes for individual ryd users, and suggest alternative transportation options. We are convinced that this pilot project in Munich can point the way toward achieving the EU's sustainability goals."
Johannes Martens, CEO of ryd, adds:
“For us as a provider with a strong community, this is an exciting opportunity to explore new avenues and assume responsibility for people and the environment.”
Kick-Off — Discussions welcome
A kick-off event for the project will take place next Thursday, November 15, 2018. The project partners invite all interested parties to attend and look forward to a lively discussion about the project and other ideas for clean air in Munich. Registration and tickets are available. here to find.
