Giesinger Bräu: Crowdinvesting to build its own bottling plant

More than 1.2 million euros in 77 days and almost 1,300 investors: The crowdinvesting campaign "Giesinger Bräu 2 – A Profit from Coziness," with which Giesinger Bräu raised funds for its own bottling plant on the CONDA platform until the end of January, was a complete success. The building permit for a second production site in the north of Munich has already been submitted, and the completion of the facility is scheduled for 2019. Plant starts operation.

With the achieved sum of exactly 1,207,900 euros, “A profit of coziness" is one of the most successful crowdinvesting projects in Germany and raised the highest amount in the food/beverage sector. Following its fourth crowdfunding/investing campaign, Giesinger Bräu is once again poised for expansion and is expected to begin construction of its second production site in Milbertshofen at the end of November 2018. A new brewhouse, with increased brewing and storage capacity totaling 22,000 hectoliters annually, as well as its own bottling plant, will mark this milestone in the history of the still young brewery.

Successful crowdinvesting thanks to regional focus

Crowdinvesting is nothing new for Giesinger Bräu. The brewery has grown with online-based financing from a large number of committed supporters. What began as an experiment in a backyard in Untergiesing in 2006 is now Munich's second-largest private brewery with around 50 employees and an annual sales volume of 12,000 hectoliters. This, in addition to bank loans and equity, was largely thanks to crowdfunding and crowdinvesting: The construction of the brewery, complete with brewhouse and lounge, on Giesinger Berg was supported by a successful initial crowdfunding campaign in 2011. Crowdfunding was also used for the Giesinger Standhausschank with a live stage in 2016, raising €120,634.

In addition, a crowdinvesting campaign was launched in 2016, for the first time on CONDA. Over 1,000 supporters supported Giesinger Bräu with more than €744,000. In total, Giesinger Bräu raised more than €2 million through crowdfunding and crowdinvesting.

“The first campaign ‘Giesinger Bräu’ was one of the most successful on our crowdinvesting platform,”

says Dirk Littig, Managing Director of CONDA Germany. With "Giesinger Bräu 2," this record appears to have been further extended: Within ten weeks, 1,296 backers invested €1,207,900 in Giesinger. The brewery is paying a six percent interest rate on the invested capital through profit participation certificates. In addition to the focus on traditional brewing, Littig sees another reason for the Giesinger Brewery's record-breaking success in its strong regional identity.

Increase in limit due to strong demand

In view of the surprisingly high demand for “Giesinger Bräu 2”, the
At the end of December, the managing director decided to expand the crowdfunding campaign and raise the limit from €750,000 to €1,250,000. With these additional funds, the new brewhouse will allow the company to expand its capacity to a one percent market share (measured by beer consumption) in Munich and the surrounding area, and further expand its beer varieties and diversity.

“We are very happy and incredibly grateful for this incredible support from our sponsors, friends and fans,”

says Managing Director Steffen MarxHe continues:

"But even beyond the money: It's a benefit how thoroughly the investors engage with the fortunes of our brewery. Honest, timely, and helpful criticism, and I find the most valuable suggestions here in our brewery. And that's truly priceless."
