German Aviation Innovation Award enters its 3rd round

The German Aviation Innovation Award (IDL) is in the middle of the application phase: Innovative ideas and concepts can be submitted in the four categories “Industry 4.0”, “Emission Reduction”, “Customer Journey” and — for the first time — “Cross-Innovation” until February 25, 2018.

The new "Cross-Innovation" category recognizes innovations that originate from industries unrelated to aviation and are applied in aviation, or vice versa. This is intended to generate new potential for innovation and develop viable concepts and solutions for the aviation of the future.

IDL patron and Federal Government Coordinator for German Aerospace, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Brigitte Zypries:

"The German Aviation Innovation Award is now being presented for the third time. It brings together strong industry players with innovators—that's its strength. I'm confident that the German Aviation Innovation Award can once again provide new impetus."

IDL is now considered a “seal of quality”

Prof. Rolf Henke, DLR Executive Board Member for Aeronautics Research and Technology and Chairman of the IDL jury, says:

"The IDL 2017 has left a positive impression on everyone involved. There were outstanding winning concepts and a lively professional exchange among the participants, partners, supporters, and organizers. The IDL 'seal of quality' has also helped with product development—some of the award-winning innovations from the past two years have already made it into industrial production. We are now excited about the new applications."

The IDL is organized by the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI), the German Aviation Industry Association (BDL), the digital association Bitkom, and the P3 group. The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Center for Applied Aeronautics Research (ZAL) are supporting the award. A jury chaired by Prof. Rolf Henke, DLR Executive Board Member for Aeronautics Research and Technology, will select the winners.
