Smart City: Demand for skilled workers is increasing

The metasearch engine Joblift examines how the topic of Smart City is developing and analyses job advertisements from the last 24 months.

The result: Job advertisements related to smart cities increased by 211,000,000 to 6,569. 611,000,000 of the advertised positions related to the energy sector.

The company discovered the most job openings (151) in the German capital, followed by Munich (121) and Erlangen (91). However, the number of residents and employed people in the cities was not taken into account. In other words, Berlin is looking for about a quarter more smart city specialists than Munich, despite the population being about two and a half times larger.

Smart City needs developers

The greatest demand for skilled workers currently appears to be in the field of smart grids. Almost two-thirds of all vacancies identified are in the energy sector, an increase of 321,000 within a year. Mobility follows in second place with 171,000 vacancies.
