Labs64 NetLicensing is a prime example of how to make a virtue out of necessity. The founders shared with us how their Licensing-as-a-Service (LaaS) model works and how they came up with the idea.
1. Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!
We are Alexey Averikhin and Konstantin Korotkov from Labs64 NetLicensing. The idea behind Labs64 NetLicensing grew out of our own needs. When we saw that this idea could also benefit other software and digital service providers, we decided to develop the idea further and offer it to others. This is how NetLicensing was born.
Our NetLicensing product is a first-class solution in the so-called "Licensing-as-a-Service (LaaS)" sector. The idea behind it is to enable customers to focus on the core functions of their product and eliminate the resource expenditure associated with developing their own license management software. We offer a cost-effective, integrated, and extensible platform for these software vendors and developers that relieves them of the licensing burden. After all, focusing on what you do best is one of the secrets to a successful business!
2. But that's been around for a long time!
It's necessary for virtually every product, yes. But many manufacturers try to implement licensing themselves. This requires expertise, R&D resources, infrastructure, and maintenance. Not every company has these features readily available or can create opportunities to provide them. Furthermore, you have to keep an eye on the costs, which for many companies then grow to a level that is no longer realistic. We help with this by taking care of everything related to licensing.
Communication, flexibility, know-how
3. What are the three main ingredients for your recipe for success?
• We work closely with our customers and are always available. If the customer requests changes or has questions, we can respond immediately. Communication is very important to us.
• Our product is flexible and adaptable to the specific needs of the company. These needs depend primarily on the size of the intended target group. We can respond flexibly to changes in these needs and adapt the licenses.
• We offer a technical background and the knowledge necessary for implementation. This allows us to deliver exactly the licensing every company expects.
4. Let’s get down to business: How is business going?
In 2016, we renamed our brand and launched a rebranding exercise; the former LmBox became NetLicensing. We've already convinced more than 1,000 customers to use our NetLicensing solution, and we're growing continuously. This is certainly due in part to the many ways our service can be used, as we offer many different licensing models tailored specifically to our vendors, and the number is constantly growing. For a B2B business, all this data isn't bad at all!
“We have everything you need here!”
5. What does Munich mean to you?
We develop from Munich and therefore naturally have a strong connection to the city and its surroundings. Here, we can focus on our work and satisfy our clients, but also enjoy our free time when we're tired of a long day. Furthermore, Munich is a very international city in itself, so we find the location ideal for our headquarters. You could say we have everything we need here!
6. How will your startup become the next unicorn? Or will we see you soon at Epic Fail Night?
We have a lot planned for the near future to become a unicorn. Our backlog is very full, and we're constantly gaining new customers. Of course, we also plan to regularly improve our product and make the licensing service the best it can be, covering all needs. A lofty goal, sure, but we're working toward it. So we'll definitely see you again!
7. Hiking or beer garden?
Hiking, of course, because being out in nature clears your head and gives you new ideas that will then be of benefit to you in the office.
