Munich Chamber of Commerce and Industry

This was the 3rd Crowdfunding Night in the new MakerSpace

Things got heated on 11 June at the 3rd Crowdfunding Night of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria in the new MakerSpace in Garching.

The night for enthusiasts was all about "Crowd meets Tech." The focus was on crowdfunding for tech products.

After a short welcome by the IHK crowd expert Linette Heimrich, welcomed Thomas Münch from the UnternehmerTUM and Phill Handy from MakerSpace the almost 100 guests of the crowdfunding night.

Nadine Bruder from Kickstarter Germany demonstrated what successful crowdfunding campaigns look like. She explained how storytelling works, what are best practices for tech products, and also highlighted the no-gos and common pitfalls that project starters should definitely avoid. The most important thing in a campaign is to tell a story. Following the motto "Create something you want to share with others," the goal is to build a community and, ideally, a successful campaign.

Wolfgang Seibold from Bocusini, the first Plug'nPlay 3D food printer, reported live from the daily campaign routine. He openly admitted that he used his Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign as a marketing tool. The 3D food printer is primarily aimed at chefs who want to add a personal touch to their dishes. Reaching out to this specific audience was a major challenge during the ongoing campaign.

Nikolaj Hviid of Bragi In 2014, he launched Europe's most successful crowdfunding campaign to date with "The Dash," gaining 16,000 backers for his smart headphones. He shared with the crowdfunding night attendees an exciting year with the crowd, the ups and downs of startup life, and a wealth of learnings.

In addition, current crowdfunding campaigns from Munich and the surrounding area pitched for the audience's attention. This time, they included StoryHome: The Storytelling Device , the SWOP Team and Aexo.

The Crowdfunding Night ended with a joint networking session, during which the participants were treated to the finest Munich Startup Beer, snacks, and ice cream were served. Those interested could also take a guided tour of the newly opened MakerSpace and watch live as their very own "Crowdfunding Night" bottle opener was engraved.
