Under the motto "Passion. Creativity. Code." Teams from across Germany presented their ideas and solutions at the national finals of the Imagine Cup. The two winning teams prevailed in front of a panel of experts from Microsoft and startup companies at the competition held at Microsoft Germany headquarters in Munich and will now represent Germany at the international finals in Seattle in July. There, they have the chance to win $100,000 in prize money and receive coaching from experienced mentors.
"The diverse ideas of the Imagine Cup 2017 participants demonstrate the creativity and innovative power of the younger generation. With this competition, we promote exciting projects worldwide and support the teams in their bold quest to identify technical and societal challenges and find solutions to them,"
explained Peter Jaeger, Senior Director Developer Experience & Evangelism (DX) and member of the management team at Microsoft Germany.
Programming made easy thanks to koicode
The winning team koicode from the Technical University of Munich visualizes code. The improved readability is intended to make it easier for beginners to get started with programming. The visualization clearly shows the structure and relationships of code, especially for schoolchildren and students.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to present our idea to an international audience, to exchange ideas with Microsoft experts and to further improve our idea,”
says Christian Diemers from the koicode team.
SmartCase: No more lost luggage
The team SmartCase from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) helps locate luggage and protect it against theft with its solution. Users can locate their luggage via GPS and track it worldwide using a smartphone app.
“With our idea, we want to reduce the number of lost luggage and thus make traveling safer and less stressful,”
so Andreas Mai from SmartCase.
