The Munich-based high-tech company cosine° launches its brand-new product degree°: a fever thermometer that continuously measures children's temperature and immediately alerts parents via app in case of emergencyt.
The story behind degree°
The three-year-old daughter of Greta and Johannes Kreuzer One day, a viral infection leads to a febrile seizure. Although Greta sat next to her daughter and took her temperature hourly, she couldn't see the seizure coming. It's not the absolute values, but the rapid rise in temperature that causes a febrile seizure. The business graduate and founder hasn't let go of the topic since then:
"This experience, along with the fact that approximately 301 of the children who have had a febrile seizure will have one more, prompted us to think about it. After all, we run a company that focuses on mobile vital sign measurement."
Crowdfunding campaign is underway
Her husband and co-founder Johannes, a medical engineering graduate with a doctorate, and his development team then developed a continuously measuring fever thermometer that is specially adapted for children and can be worn day and night.
"We already had the appropriate measurement technology in-house. The challenge was to adapt the fit to toddlers and design it so ergonomically that the little ones could also sleep with it."
The result is a thermometer that uses a small sensor to measure body temperature every second and also documents the entire process.
To get the business rolling, the cosinuss° founders have set up a Kickstarter campaign to present degree° to the community.
