Innovative technologies, techniques, procedures, processes, products, services and business models for climate and environmental protection are recognized in five categories, with the fifth category specifically recognizing the transfer of such innovations to developing and emerging countries and to Eastern European countries.

Ideas that help protect the climate and the environment – the German Innovation Award for Climate and Environment (IKU) is awarded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the Federation of German Industries (BDI).
With this award, the organizers recognize the commitment of business and research to climate and environmental protection. They provide a platform for companies, people, and ideas that make important contributions.
