With a concentrated array of celebrities in attendance, the 30th anniversary edition of the Munich Media Days offered a platform for debates on current media topics. This year, a special focus was on media startups.
Chancellor Angela Merkel presented the current challenges facing the media industry Angela Merkel at the center of her 30-minute opening speech. In light of continued attacks on the credibility of the media, Merkel said last Tuesday:
"Thorough research can be convincing in the long run. Quality strengthens credibility and trust."
She criticized the culture of debate on the Internet:
“We have recently witnessed a way of expressing doubts that no longer has anything to do with constructive criticism.”
Anew The Chancellor emphasized the importance of data as a raw material for the German economy.
Media days with startup area and theme day

The focus on startups was already expressed spatially at the Media Days: Almost half of the exhibition space was designated as a "Startup Area" and was reserved for young companies and ecosystem players. Among others, Munich startups presented themselves Spot effects, The context and Storytile the visitors. Alex Nita from Storytile told:
“We were able to make many exciting contacts with people from the media industry.”
Storytile also provided its technology for the official live blog of the Media Days. A blogger and a live photographer reported on the event and prepared the content live using storytile's software.

The startup program at the Media Days reached its climax on Thursday: WERK1, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, BayStartUP, the Media Lab Bayern and Sky Play introduced themselves throughout the day. Presentations, startup pitches, and panel discussions took place.
