BlaBlaCar takes over Mitfahrgelegenheit.de

Exit in Munich: The French ride-sharing service provider BlaBlaCar takes over 100 percent of the Munich-based company Carpooling and thus mitfahrgelegenheit.de and mitfahrzentrale.deThis is reported by the Business WeekCarpooling has so far been financially supported by Earlybird, and Daimler AG also joined the venture in 2012. No information about the purchase price is available yet.

Recently, there have been repeated voices saying that Carpooling was looking for additional growth capital, but was unable to find any convincing solutions.

Nothing changes for the customer for the time being

Initially, mitfahrgelegenheit.de and mitfahrzentrale.de will continue to operate as before, but in the long term, the aim is to “build a global brand with BlaBlaCar,” BlaBlaCar co-founder Nicolas Brusson told Business WeekBlaBlaCar Germany boss Olivier Bremer added: “Our goal is to unite the platforms.”

Bremer left unanswered whether the service might become chargeable for German customers in the future. He added that the future business model in this country has not yet been decided.
