Startups, SMEs and larger companies with innovative projects in the field of sustainable energy can apply to the KIC InnoEnergy innovation initiative until October 11, 2016.
KIC InnoEnergy supports companies in the research and development stage in bringing their products to market. An initial call this year attracted more than 500 applications from across Europe.
After the application deadline, applicants with the most promising projects will be invited to present their concepts to KIC InnoEnergy's evaluation committees. The successful applicants will be announced on December 19, 2016.
Diego Pavia, CEO of KIC InnoEnergy, explains the background of the initiative:
"The energy sector is undergoing unprecedented change and facing enormous challenges. If we want to reduce emissions while ensuring a future of sustainable and affordable energy, innovation is a key factor for success."
The call for proposals seeks applications in eight thematic fields: clean coal and gas technologies, energy storage, energy efficiency, energy from chemical energy sources, renewable energies, smart and efficient buildings and cities, smart grids, and sustainable convergence of nuclear power and renewable energies.
KIC InnoEnergy brings innovators together with industry representatives
The project aims to provide practical support to applicants:
“We bring innovators together with industry representatives and other partners from across Europe who help bring something that was previously only a concept to commercial fruition,”
says Diego Pavia and continues:
"This is the seventh call for proposals in five years. So far, we've invested €133 million, helping 70 new products and services reach their first customers. As we open our doors to innovators for the second time this year, our message is once again: Come to us and we'll help you bring your concepts to commercial fruition."
