The Munich-based startup TerraLoupe, which analyzes aerial image data of large areas using artificial intelligence, has completed seed financing from Bayern Kapital and a consortium of angel investors.
The use of TerraLoupe's deep learning technology now makes it possible to automatically detect even small objects in large areas. The company plans to invest the fresh capital in expanding and refining the algorithms. These can efficiently detect relatively small objects, such as skylights or street signs, from large amounts of data; such solutions were previously unavailable on the market.
“Many customers are surprised by what is already possible today”
For example, TerraLoupe helps (re)insurance companies better assess their building insurance risks across cities by automatically detecting large areas of skylights and conservatories on and around buildings. Car manufacturers can obtain highly accurate road maps for driver assistance systems and autonomous driving more quickly and cost-effectively. Such maps also contain information on traffic infrastructure, for example. Solar energy providers can identify suitable roof areas for installing solar systems.
"In principle, we want to use our platform to advance the digitization of the outside world and, in the long term, combine the detected objects with georeferenced additional information. Many customers are surprised by what is already possible today. And we can now provide them with information that will boost their business,"
explains TerraLoupe Managing Director and Founder Manuela Rasthofer.
"The geodata market is currently undergoing a transformation: After the collection and processing of geodata, the automated and comprehensive analysis of these vast amounts of data will now drive the next major growth in the industry. Companies like TerraLoupe, which can offer clear technological added value in this area, will play a pioneering role in the future. We are therefore pleased to be able to support TerraLoupe with our financing,"
explained Roman Huber, Managing Director of Bayern KapitalBayern Kapital was acquired as an investor together with a consortium of angels led by Prof. Dr. Michael Mirow, Prof. Dr. Christoph von Einem and the e2C3 angel network.
Dr. Carsten Rudolph, Managing Director of BayStartUP, has already supported the TerraLoupe team in coaching before the financing round.
"Due to the breadth of possible applications, TerraLoupe technology has almost unlimited fields of application. During the business planning phase beforehand, it was therefore important to jointly prioritize the target groups,"
said Rudolph.
“TerraLoupe combines strong technology expertise in deep learning with customer-oriented solutions,”
says Professor Dr. Michael Mirow with regard to the investment made:
"We live in a digital age. In the future, more and more industries will rely on highly accurate digital external information."
