TUM and CISPA jointly strengthen the Munich startup ecosystem

CISPA and the Technische Universität München are deepening their partnership. The goal is to translate research findings in cybersecurity and trustworthy AI into startups and economic value creation.

The CISPA Helmholtz Center for Information Security and the Technische Universität München (TUM) are expanding their cooperation to include key topics of technology transfer and startup support. Following a successful research collaboration, both partners now intend to take a targeted step toward innovation and company formation. The goal is to translate research findings from the fields of cybersecurity and trustworthy artificial intelligence into marketable applications and startups. In this way, they aim to sustainably strengthen Munich's startup ecosystem.

The focus is on establishing a strong CISPA transfer presence in Munich. Together with TUM and its partner organizations, structures are to be created that will more quickly translate scientific findings into economic and social impact. With key players such as UnternehmerTUM and the TUM Venture Labs With its innovation landscape, the close integration of science and business, and the support of political initiatives, Munich offers optimal conditions. 

CISPA strengthens presence in Munich

With this new initiative, CISPA is now anchoring its activities more firmly in Munich and focusing on expanding collaborations with regional partners. The city aims to become a central location for collaborative research and transfer projects.

Michael Backes, Founding Director and CEO of CISPA, explains: 

"With its excellent transfer infrastructure, international networking, and strong support from academia and industry, Munich offers ideal conditions for quickly and effectively bringing our cutting-edge research in cybersecurity and trustworthy AI to society. Innovation between research and start-up

TUM also sees the expanded collaboration with CISPA as an important opportunity to further expand Munich's innovative strength. 

Thomas F. Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich, emphasizes: 

"Together with CISPA and, in conjunction with Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, as part of the ONE MUNICH strategy, we are creating a competitive foundation to further develop Munich as an internationally visible innovation hub for cybersecurity and trustworthy AI – and to directly translate the results of cutting-edge research into innovative applications and successful startups."

The collaboration between CISPA and TUM creates another building block in Munich's innovation ecosystem, closely linking research, entrepreneurship, and technology. It's a further step toward establishing Munich as a leading European location for cybersecurity research and trustworthy AI.
