Agile Robots acquires Idealworks

Agile Robots now holds all shares in the BMW spin-off Idealworks. The BMW Group remains a long-term partner and continues to rely on the startup's robotics technologies.

Agile Robots, a provider of AI-powered automation solutions, has announced the acquisition of the remaining shares of Idealworks. Agile Robots had already participated in the BMW spin-off boarded.

The BMW Group spun off Idealworks in 2020. Since then, the startup has developed a robotics ecosystem with three core products: the Any Fleet automation platform, the Iw Sim simulation software, and the Iw Hub autonomous mobile robot. Today, over 850 Iw Hubs are in operation at BMW Group production facilities worldwide. In addition to the automotive sector, Idealworks now also serves customers in manufacturing, logistics, and warehousing.

Agile Robots was founded in 2018 as a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The company has made a name for itself with software and hardware products for the robotics sector and, as part of its expansion, has already acquired numerous companies such as Audeering or Franka Emika integrated.

Idealworks aims to expand into new countries and industries

Michael Alexander Schneider, CEO of Idealworks, on the next steps:

"This is an important milestone for Idealworks. With Agile Robots as our technology partner and access to a strong group of companies, we have the resources to further scale our robotics ecosystem, enter new industries, drive international expansion, and continue our trusting collaboration with the BMW Group to further develop its robotics activities."

The complete acquisition is intended to strengthen the market position of both companies in the field of industrial automation. Together, the companies pursue the goal of making production processes smarter, faster, and more efficient. To achieve this, they are focusing on the combination of AI-supported robotics and automation technologies.
