Dock Financial was considered the hope of the Munich Fintech sceneThe company developed customized financial solutions for various industries and supported its partners in integrating financial features. The startup had previously attracted attention with the acquisition of Paydora and Compeon.
Nevertheless, the start-up companies failed to raise fresh venture capital. At the end of May 2024, both Dock Financial GmbH and its affiliated Dock Financial Capital GmbH filed for preliminary insolvency. In the following months, both companies opened their respective Insolvency proceedingsThe Munich District Court appointed the two lawyers Marlene Scheinert and Ivo-Meinert Willrodt from Pluta Rechtsanwalts GmbH as insolvency administrators.
Now, the fintech appears to have found a buyer in Rakuten. The Japanese tech giant is acquiring the technology from Dock Financial, according to reports from Manager Magazin, citing information from inside the company. Rakuten also operates a bank in Europe and apparently plans to expand it with the acquired technology.
Some of the employees are also said to have transferred to Rakuten as part of the acquisition. For the team led by CEO Marko Wenthin, the deal is a partial success, as it has enabled them to secure a prominent buyer for key company assets.
